The program is a collaborative treatment/educational model regulated through the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Clinical and Educational services are provided by Northern Tier Counseling, Inc. The program is a therapeutic program which is designed to meet the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulty functioning in their school, home, or community environment. Treatment within the program is individualized based on the student’s clinical needs.
The goal of the program is to stabilize the behavioral health symptoms, as well as improve social, emotional, family and educational functioning. All students entering the program will be evaluated by the program Psychiatrist or the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. Treatment is provided through group, individual and family sessions.
All students will participate in group therapy on a daily basis with other students their age. The students also receive weekly individual therapy. Family therapy is an important component to the programs treatment plan and should occur a minimum of one time per month. All students meet with the program Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner upon admission and then for follow up every 2-4 weeks or sooner if needed.
The program serves children in grades 7th to 12th, enrolled in school districts in Bradford and Sullivan Counties. Each student who enters the program is assessed by a mental health professional and with that mental health professional develops an individualized treatment plan that will best meet their behavioral health needs. Each student is given instructional support that is at their level or is tailored to meet their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.
Speech, physical, and occupational therapies can also be received while attending the Partial Hospitalization Program, if deemed medically necessary or recommended through the students IEP.
The school districts provide transportation to and from the student’s school district to the program site in Towanda, PA. Lunch is provided by the Towanda School District.
To be eligible for Partial Hospitalization Program, an adolescent must be identified with a behavioral health diagnosis and exhibit symptoms that require the level of intensity provided within the Partial Program, thus making the services medically necessary. The student must be enrolled in a school district in Bradford or Sullivan Counties. The school district that the student is attending must be aware and agree with the placement within the program. Through this evaluation and an interdisciplinary team meeting, the duration and frequency of treatment services are determined.
