Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Northern Tier Counseling’s Adolescent PHP offers a supportive, structured day program for students in grades 7–12 who are facing significant emotional or mental health challenges. Because the program is located right inside Towanda Area Jr.–Sr. High School, students can receive several hours of therapy, group activities, and skill building support each day in a school setting.

Participants return home each afternoon, which helps maintain daily routines and keeps families closely involved in their child’s progress. This balance of intensive care and family connection creates a stable, encouraging environment for teens to heal, grow, and succeed.

Comprehensive Therapeutic Support

The program offers a well-rounded blend of individual, group, and family therapy to help teens understand their emotions, learn healthy coping skills, and develop positive behaviors. Every adolescent receives a personalized treatment plan created from a thorough clinical assessment, ensuring their unique needs are addressed.

When appropriate, medication management is also available through collaboration with a psychiatrist or psychiatric certified nurse practitioner, providing an added layer of support to help each teen achieve the best possible outcomes.

Structured, Skill‑Focused Environment

Our clinicians at Northern Tier Counseling are trained in a wide range of proven therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Focused CBT. We also provide grief and bereavement support and specialized trauma interventions. One of our newest and most effective options is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a research-backed therapy that helps resolve distressing memories and restore emotional well-being.

Who Benefits from PHP?

Adolescent PHP is designed for teens who are dealing with serious emotional or mental health challenges—such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, OCD, eating disorders, or other concerns that may be affecting their behavior, school performance, or daily life.
This level of care is especially helpful for youth who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy can offer but do not require inpatient hospitalization. It can also support teens who are experiencing self harm behaviors, suicidal thoughts, or significant disruptions in their behavior.

Families and schools are active partners in the process, helping create a well-rounded, supportive path toward healing and long-term stability.
