Family-Based Mental Health Services (FBMH)
Northern Tier Counseling provides family-based mental health services to support children with emotional or behavioral challenges and the families that care for them. Our mission is to strengthen family relationships, prevent out-of-home placements, and support a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive.
Comprehensive In-Home Support
Our program offers intensive in-home therapy focused on collaboration between family members and therapists. We provide parenting skills training to improve communication and effectiveness, assertiveness training to empower family members, and behavior management techniques to address challenging behaviors. In addition, crisis support is available 24/7 to help families manage emergencies whenever they arise.
Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy
We use Ecosystemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT), an evidence-based approach that addresses the complex interaction between family dynamics, individual needs, and environmental stressors. ESFT helps families reorganize patterns of interaction, strengthen emotional connections, and build resilience. This model promotes lasting change by focusing on the entire family system rather than just the child.
Who Can Refer Families?
Referrals can come from families themselves, managed care organizations, psychiatrists or psychologists, county children and youth caseworkers, probation officers, and community agencies. We work closely with all partners to ensure families receive timely, coordinated, and effective care.
Benefits for Families and Children
Our services help families care for their children while fostering self-esteem, confidence, and hope in young people. By reducing feelings of isolation and helplessness, we create a foundation for emotional well-being and stability. Most importantly, these services help families stay together and avoid out-of-home placements.
